DID YOU KNOW . . .
  • Women and children in Congo and Uganda have been faced with civil conflict for over 20 years.
  • Tens of thousands have been murdered, abducted, brutally raped, tortured, and overall forgotten.
  • Congo Wars have claimed more lives than any conflict since the end of World War II, yet the crisis has received little attention outside of central Africa. (5.4 Million)
  • 45,000 people die in Congo each month from conflict-related injuries and illness
  • According to the UN, more than 56,000 women have reported being raped in Congo since 2004 alone, although the real number is likely much higher due to significant under-reporting by survivors.
  • Civil conflict has forced 80 percent of Uganda’s population to flee their homes.
  • •An estimated 66,000 children have been forced by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) into being soldiers or sex slaves during the conflict.
"The best way for the world to thrive is to ensure that its women have the freedom, power and knowledge to make decisions affecting their own lives and those of their families and communities."
